I’m never going to be a beauty blogger, or even moonlight as such – I can only imagine I’d look like a daft, paint-by numbers picture should I attempt contouring, I’m yet to understand the purpose of a serum and I’ve never owned a foundation. But thanks to my beauty queen roots and loathing of my own flat, straight hair, I seem to have mastered big, bouncy hair. I don’t mind admitting to being somewhat of a whizz with a curly brush – although, apparently it’s not a listable talent when competing in aforementioned beauty pageants!
I get a lot of questions asking how to get my voluminous, messy barnet – so, why not share with you my tips and tricks to getting a lank, Cheerio encrusted, mum-do somewhere towards Cindy Crawford circa 1992, in less than 10 minutes.
The Cut
I’ve always had my mum’s best friend, who happens to be a hairdresser, chop my tresses – no fancy, schmancy London salon pour moi. Once you find a good chopper, stick with them! I usually ask for a messy, long bob with a long side fringe; longer at the front than the back, but not so short at the back that the razor comes out – but no shaving at the back!

While you might see on said Pinterest board that I occasionally dream of long, tousled tresses – I’ve come to learn that they’re just not meant for me. My hair is annoyingly straight, silky and holds a curl worse than a ruler! While my hair is fine, there’s quite a bit of it – so all those elements combined with my naturally dark colouring (ok, with a silver hint shining through these days) can leave me looking a little Mortitia Adams for my liking!
