Wow, what a week?! We’ve come crashing into Monday after a somewhat hectic half term (not quite over yet – we’ve got an inset day today!) and surprisingly I’m pretty upbeat about all that has happened in the past 7 days. Considering I’m running on next to no sleep, courtesy of Casper – Captain of #TeamNoSleep; we’ve had the boys at home all day, every day; and we’re facing a giant house move in 3 weeks (eeek, a bit of denial over that one) – I’m blissfully grateful for all the stuff going right. Don’t panic, I’m not about to get all gushy and holistically thankful to a higher being – but sometimes I find it good for the ol’ mama soul to take stock of my blessings – it puts things in perspective. On a day when things might not seem so perky, you know the ones when you’re pre-menstrual, the kids are fighting non-stop, the washing machine is stuck on an error-code that might as well be an outer-Mongolian dialect as no-one knows how to fix it, you run out of tea bags just as you’re gasping for that first cup of the day and you dash into the car to finally get to work only to remember you forgot to fill up with petrol – these are the days I’ll most need this list, to remind me, things really aren’t that bad!
Blessing #1: I’m bloody grateful to Mr Only Girl – every morning between 6am-8am he whisks our littlest man off to give me 2 hours of time. Just time. In that time I’m given the most precious gift any mother desires – sleep. But not only do I get a guaranteed 2 hours of shut-eye every day, when that 8am hits, I’m greeted by a freshly brewed cup of tea. This is my Nirvana.
Blessing #2: When I received the text from 8 yr old’s bestie’s dad, preceding a crazy day at work and with a very sick 7 yr old – asking if, not only would he like to go over to play for the day but also to stay the night – I think I might have snatched both his arms off via imessaging. The power of a play date/slumber party is never to be underestimated.
Blessing #3: When I started this blog just under a year ago, I would have piddled my pants a little to think that anyone other than Mr Only Girl, my mum and the girls in my office would read it – so when I receive emails from uber cool companies wanting to work together I do a little jig and call my mum. I do! I actually dance up and down for a minute then call her (or Mr Only Girl, I tend to alternate the excitement!). This week has seen a little flurry of aforementioned jig inducing emails – so exciting! Watch this space!
As for the rest of the past week, I think a few pretty pics will speak louder than words…
I mind my 22 month granddaughter 2 days so my daughter can work. Loved that you are looking for ‘blessings’. I meet so many young mums who ‘can’t wait for them to go to school’. Ladies, before you can THINK, they will be gone…and all those cuddles, kisses, finding treasure in a leaf, will be gone with them. Mind….it all starts again when they present you with your grandchild!

Morning Carol, our mums do the same for us – I’d go spare if I didn’t work for two days, but at the same time I certainly couldn’t leave these monkeys for too much longer! I’ve seen just how quickly the bigger boys (7, 9, 11 & 13) have grown up – no longer wanting to come out for days with us, wriggling out of cuddles and no longer thinking we’re the coolest people on the planet. You’re so right, it goes far too quickly to throw that time away. Have a super Monday
Hi Carol, your comment reminded me of my Mom (who’s in a better place now). She watched our 3 children 3 days a week when I went to work. I could not have done it without her and I needed to work for financial reasons. She was a blessing as are my children.
